Dave & Buster’s, more stores coming to Volusia near Tanger

DAYTONA BEACH — The Tanger Outlets mall that opened just east of Interstate 95 last November will be getting a host of new neighbors a year from now.

Those neighbors — part of a 60-acre retail/dining/entertainment complex set to begin construction — include Dave & Buster’s, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and Hobby Lobby, as well as several restaurants and other retail stores.

Developer Jeff Preston, managing partner of North American Development Group, said he anticipates pouring the foundations starting this week for the first phase of a 120-acre “power lifestyle center” that will offer shops, eateries, entertainment venues, hotels and apartments at Tomoka Town Center, the development that already includes the 39-acre, 350,000-square-foot Tanger Outlets, and is slated to also include a yet-to-be-built Sam’s Club store.

Preston described his company’s project as a “hybrid” concept that combines elements of centers that primarily feature “big box” retail stores and outdoor lifestyle centers like The Pavilion at Port Orange that offer a mix of shops and restaurants in a more walkable environment. North American plans to develop a center at Tomoka Town Center that will offer a “dynamic mix of shopping, dining and entertainment … where our patrons will want to stay for extended periods of time and experience all the project has to offer.”

Daytona Beach officials and business leaders were wowed by the sleek, upscale look of the Tanger Outlets mall and the approximately 70 stores it brought when it opened a week before last year’s Black Friday, the traditional start of the holiday shopping season.
