Daytona’s Margaritaville shops to include Publix

Grocery store to anchor shopping center at entrance to Jimmy Buffett community off LPGA Blvd.

DAYTONA BEACH — Residents of the new Latitude Margaritaville community going up here will be able to buy the fixings to grill their own “Cheeseburger in Paradise” at Publix, starting early next year.

The Lakeland-based grocery chain has signed on to operate a store at the entrance to the Jimmy Buffett-themed 55-and-older community, its developers have confirmed.

The 200,000-square-foot Latitude Landings retail center will be at the intersection of LPGA Boulevard and the new partially completed south extension of Tymber Creek Road. The new road extension will eventually run through the entire Latituide Margaritaville community to connect with where Tymber Creek Road currently ends in Ormond Beach.

The 48,000-square-foot Publix store will be the center’s anchor tenant and is expected to open in either March or April of next year, along with the rest of the retail center’s 88,000-square-foot initial phase, confirmed Sam Sutton, president of Sutton Properties, the developer for Latitude Landings.

The initial phase will include a separate Publix Liquor store that will be in the same building as the Publix grocery store as well as two multi-tenant retail buildings, one of which will include a restaurant with an outdoor deck overlooking a water feature. Three outparcels will also be available that could also accommodate a restaurant and other stores.

Sutton said his company is in talks with licensed operators of Margaritaville Holdings restaurant concepts about possibly opening a restaurant at Latitude Landings.

The Publix store “will be a brand new prototype (for the grocery chain), one of the first in the country,” Sutton said. “We touched based with other grocers, but we always had Publix as our preferred target.”
